Trendy Jewelry - Bangles From India
Adorning the arms is as important as adorning the neck and ears for an Indian woman. The Indian concept of a bracelet is a bangle, which today is not only a concept of jewelry specific to India, but can be found all over the world. Bangles can also be worn as trendy jewelry rather than traditional jewelry. In fact today, if you were to look for trendy jewelry in terms of bangles, you would be more than spoilt for choice.
The first sets
Trendy jewelry or not bangles have been around for ages. Being an important part of the jewelry that an Indian woman wears, bangles were first made in metal. Of all these metals gold was the most expensive. Bangles were either worn as a pair, one on each hand or a set - multiple bangles on each hand. Trendy jewelry soon became a popular concept and glass bangles made their entrance. Women wore these along with their gold bangles to make themselves look more attractive. Perhaps the most popular type of bangle being used as trendy jewelry these days is the thick single bangle. This bangle is called the kangan and is worn as a single piece of jewelry on one or both hands. Like other regular bangles kangan are made out of various materials like metal, lac, wood, plastic, rubber etc. and are either decorative and ornate or plain. In today's day and age, the kangan is seen mostly around young wrists and are generally worn single, as in on one hand.
Modern day bangles
Bangles account for a large quota of trendy jewelry in the Indian and now the Western market. Owing to this factor, you will fine the market flooded with bangles made of all sorts of materials. Besides the regular metal and glass bangles that one is used to seeing, there are bangles made from wood, plastic, lac and even rubber. Some of these are just plain colored, while there are those that are ornate with glass and mirror-work, hand painted and even embroidered.
